Today, I review and embed The National Cancer Institute‘s “PDQ® Cancer Information for Health Professionals“.
All that follows is from the above website.
PDQ® Cancer Information for Health Professionals
The PDQ health professional cancer information summaries are part of the comprehensive, evidence-based, up-to-date cancer content made available as a public service of the NCI. They are intended to
- improve the overall quality of cancer care by informing and educating health professionals about the current published evidence related to individual cancer-related topics and
- support informed decision making between clinicians and patients.
Selected PDQ cancer information is translated into Spanish, Japanese, and Chinese by NCI and trusted content partners. Learn more about PDQ® in Other Languages.
- Cancer Information Summaries
- “The PDQ health professional cancer information summaries are part of the comprehensive, evidence-based, up-to-date cancer content made available as a public service of the NCI. The summaries are written by Editorial Boards of cancer experts and provide the strength of the evidence for specific interventions. The summaries are fully referenced with links to published literature.”
- Editorial Boards
- “The PDQ® Editorial Boards are responsible for producing and maintaining comprehensive, evidence-based cancer information summaries. These summaries are made available to health professionals, patients, researchers, and the general public as a free service of NCI.”
- Editorial Process
- “PDQ uses a multipart and comprehensive approach for keeping the PDQ health professional cancer information summaries accurate and up to date.
- Our approach includes:
- a core Editorial Board process consisting of regular literature reviews and updates to the summaries,
- outside reviews of the summaries by external Advisory Board members, and
- a regular schedule of internal comprehensive reviews of each summary.”
- Evidence Assessment
- “The guiding principle of the editorial process for the PDQ health professional cancer information summaries is that evidence, linked to an evaluation of the quality of the evidence, takes precedence over a consensus of current practice. To develop and maintain the PDQ cancer information summaries, the PDQ Editorial Boards use an ongoing, systematic method for assessing the published literature related to the use of cancer-related interventions. To aid in these evaluations, the Editorial Boards use formal criteria to classify, or rank, the strength of the evidence from published research studies. The Editorial Boards seek out the strongest published evidence available.”
