Program Description

The purpose of this CME activity is to educate practicing physicians and other healthcare professionals about the clinical evidence supporting nutritional ketosis as a treatment for Type 2 diabetes. This evidence demonstrates that a ketogenic diet can effectively improve insulin resistance, glycemic control, and various metabolic parameters. By presenting the current evidence, we aim to help clinicians understand when and how to implement this dietary intervention safely and effectively.

Educational Objectives

Upon completion of the educational activity, participants should be able to:

  • Explain the relationship between insulin resistance and Type 2 diabetes development.
  • Describe how the ketogenic diet improves insulin sensitivity.
  • Identify the clinical markers and diagnostic criteria for insulin resistance and Type 2 diabetes.
  • Recognize the relationship between insulin resistance and cardiovascular risk.
  • Describe the evidence showing superior outcomes of ketogenic diets compared to low-fat diets for diabetes management.
  • Recognize the important clinical variables and potential risks when implementing a ketogenic diet in diabetic patients.
  • Describe appropriate diabetes medication adjustments needed when initiating a ketogenic diet.
  • Incorporate acquired knowledge on the latest findings on Ketogenic Diet as a Treatment for Type II Diabetes into current practice to better address the needs of their patients, to educate patients, and to optimize patient outcomes.
