Fever And Rash – Life Threatening Diagnoses And The Diagnostic Schema From The Clinical Problem Solvers

This blog and the posts on it are my study notes which I put up to help me reinforce my learning on the subjects I review.

I’m reviewing all of the excellent diagnostic schemas from the Clinical Problem Solvers.

Life Threatening Causes of Fever and Rash from the Clinical Problem Solvers’ diagnostic schema:

  • Rocky Mountain Spotted Fever
  • Meningococcemia
  • Toxic Shock Syndrome (Staph and Strep)
  • Necrotizing Fasciitis
  • Endocarditis

Additional Clues to Potentially Critical Fever and Rash [My thoughts]:

  • Unexplained Tachycardia
  • Unexplained Tachypnea
  • Prolonged Capillary Refill
  • Mental Status Changes
  • Toxic Appearance
  • Uncompensated or Compensated Shock

In any of the above, strongly consider empiric antibiotic and/or antiviral therapy along with vigorous support of the Mean Arterial Pressure, Oxygenation, and Ventilation.

And today I review the diagnostic schema Fever and Rash [This link is to the web page where the video of the schema is discussed. Be sure to review the video].
